Original concrete in The Township
The Township was built between 1980 and 1993, and plenty of its drives and walks are the original pour. Forty years of rain wears the cement paste off the top, the aggregate starts to show, and the surface opens up. Growth roots deeper in open concrete and comes back faster after a plain wash. Walks and patios poured at the same time have usually aged the same way.
Older concrete gets a pressure it can take, not the most the machine can put out, because too much etches it further. The pre-treatment loosens the growth, the surface cleaner lifts it evenly, and the post-treatment kills what is left in the pores. That last step is the difference between a year and a couple of months.
