White tile in The Cove
Robert Sullivan's houses in The Cove were built with white tile roofs from the early 1950s on, and a lot of the neighborhood still favors light roofs. A white or light roof is the most honest roof there is: every black stripe of Gloeocapsa shows from the street, and salt off the Intracoastal and the Hillsboro River dulls the rest.
The soft wash kills the algae and rinses the salt with no pressure, which matters on light tile because pressure etches the surface and leaves it rougher, so it stains faster next time. Houses here are old enough that Citizens asks for a four-point inspection, and a clean roof shows the inspector the tile rather than the streaks. It does not change the roof's age, and any cracked tile is pointed out first.
